At Mobility Your Way, we understand! You rely on your mobility scooter for your freedom and independence,
We understand what it means when your mobility scooter is out of action, so here are some of the things you can try to solve your mobility scooter problems on the fly!
Trip Switch - Push it back in. The trip switch protects the batteries on your mobility scooter being damaged in the event of a power surge or overload. If this has happened the switch inside the clear rubber surround will be out, just push it back in. This may be hidden on larger scooters but is usually located below the seat or very near to the batteries.
Free Wheel Level - Must be in “drive” to use the scooter. When you purchased your mobility scooter, the sales advisers should have explained the free wheel lever. If the free wheel lever is not in “drive” the mobility scooter will beep. You will need to turn the mobility scooter off and on to reset once the free wheel level has been put into drive.
Battery Box - Ensure it is fully in place. The battery box must be fully in its slot for the mobility scooter to operate. If it is not, the mobility scooter will not turn on. If the mobility scooter keeps cutting out when it is in use, the battery box may be jumping on and off the terminals when you go over bumps and needs securing down properly.
Front and Rear Sections - Ensure they are properly connected. For travel mobility scooters that disassemble for transport problems may occur if they have not been reassembled correctly. The front and rear sections of the mobility scooter should be properly connected. Please do this carefully to ensure against damaging the connections.
Charger - The mobility scooter will not work if the charger is still plugged in. Ensure the charger is removed as the scooter will beep or not turn on at all.
Control Levers - If you turn the mobility scooter on and try to drive immediately it will beep and not work. We find if you wait a few seconds or until the lights on the dash are lit up to drive that works best.
Wheel Lock – Not able to steer. If you cannot steer the scooter then the wheel lock may be locked (not all mobility scooter models have this feature). This will need to be unlocked so the scooter can be steered. Most wheel locks on scooters involve pushing it in and turning left or right.
Keys - It seems obvious, but make sure you have the keys in. The mobility scooter won’t move unless the keys are in and FULLY turned on.
